2024 IRMAA Brackets: Amounts and How to Forecast for Retirement2024 IRMAA Brackets: Amounts and How to Forecast for Retirement

What is IRMAA:

IRMAA is short for Medicare’s Income Related Monthly Adjustment Amount which is according to the Code of Federal Regulations:

“An amount that you will pay for your Medicare Part B and D coverage when your modified adjusted gross income is above the certain thresholds.”

IRMAA is a tax on your income through Medicare Part B and Part D coverage if you have too much income while in retirement.

IRMAA - Medicare Logo

Will you actually enter IRMAA:

According to the 2022 Medicare Board of Trustees Report, currently, there are over 6.8 million people in IRMAA. These people in IRMAA make up 16.63% of all eligible Medicare beneficiaries.

By 2031, according to recent reports the number of people in IRMAA will double to 13.8 million eligible people in IRMAA.

IRMAA is a revenue generator for both the Medicare and Social Security Programs.

For the Medicare program, IRMAA is an added cost that the person in it must pay. This added cost provides more money each year for the program.

As for Social Security, according to Congress, all IRMAA costs are automatically deducted from any Social Security benefit a person is receiving. Thus, for those who enter IRMAA, Social Security has to pay out less to them which reduces that program’s obligation to pay benefits.

With both Medicare and Social Security projected by the government to be insolvent (unable to pay) in less than 8 years the easiest way to save these programs is to make sure more people are in IRMAA.

How do you reach an IRMAA bracket:

IRMAA is all about your Modified Adjusted Gross Income (MAGI).

The more of it you have the higher the chances that you have to reaching IRMAA while having less of an MAGI reduces the chance of you reaching IRMAA.

What counts towards your MAGI:

According to Social Security your MAGI is the total of your adjusted gross income (AGI) and any tax-exempt interest you may have.

Both of these can be found on lines 2a and 11 of your 2022 IRS tax form 1040.

Some examples of where your MAGI will come from are:

Taxable Social Security benefits traditional 401(k) Withdrawals
Wages Traditional IRA Withdrawals
Pension & Rental Income Traditional 403(b) Withdrawals
capital Gains Qualified Annuities
Dividends Interest

If you want to avoid IRMAA all together then the goal is to generate an income from financial instruments that do not count towards your MAGI and they are:

Roth Account Withdrawals
Life Insurance loans
Non-Qualified Annuities*
Health Saving Account Withdrawals
401(h) Plans
Home Loans or Reverse Mortgages

*Non-Qualified Annuities – depending on certain factors a certain portion of all income you will receive from them can be completely tax free. Please see an IRMAA Certified Professional for more information on which Annuity is best for you.

For a complete list of what does and does not count towards IRMAA please click here.

How to File an Appeal

If you feel you shouldn’t be subject to IRMAA, you can file an appeal.  What you do comes down to how you want to appeal.

For Medicare enrollees with a qualifying life changing event:

All that needs to be done is for you to fill out the SSA-44 form by competing the first 3 pages and then submit it with your corresponding proof of your life changing event to your local SSA office.

You can find your local SSA office here.

Once the paperwork is submitted all correspondence about your appeal will be mailed to you from the SSA. If the result is not satisfactory you can request a hearing which can also be done through your local SSA office.

For Medicare enrollees without a qualifying life changing event but who want to appeal based on an updated tax-return or income discrepancy:

Appealing IRMAA is even simpler than have a qualifying life changing event as all that is needed to be done is for you to request an appeal at your local SSA office.

Explain to the local Field Representative that you have a received an IRMAA notification and that you like to appeal based on updated tax information.

A case number will be assigned to you as well as Field Agent, which could be the person at your local office, so always be nice and any correspondence about your case ill be mailed to you by the SSA.

If the IRMAA result is not satisfactory you can always request a hearing at your local SSA office too.

At the point of request your local agent will be able to submit your appeal and a case number at that moment should be assigned to you. As your case is evolving you will have to provide documentation that disproves the information that the IRS has provided which can be a corrected or amended tax-return or even a more update one

Conclusion:

The 2024 IRMAA Brackets are, by law, going to increase, but the odds of you or someone you know reaching IRMAA at some point are also increasing.

Expressing Freedom in America Through FlagsExpressing Freedom in America Through Flags

In the United States, flags are not just colorful pieces of fabric. They are strong symbols of freedom, pride, and history. At a time when some believe that the freedom of speech faces threats, flying a flag becomes a meaningful way to express oneself. This article discusses why flags hold such importance in America and why it’s crucial to keep this tradition alive.

Why Freedom of Speech Feels Under Attack

Freedom of speech is a foundational principle of American democracy, enshrined in the First Amendment in the U.S. Constitution. It allows people to express their thoughts, beliefs, and opinions without fear of government retaliation. However, many people feel that this freedom is being challenged today. Some believe that public shaming, social media censorship, and political correctness threaten this fundamental right. In such a climate, expressing oneself through flags becomes a visible and impactful form of personal expression.

Expressing Yourself with a Flag

When words are limited or when someone wants to make a bold statement, flags serve as effective tools for expression. Each flag tells a story or sends a message without saying a word. For example, flying the American flag can show love and pride for the country, while other flags might support specific causes or commemorate historical events. Learn more about: old Texas flag 1836

Key Reasons Americans Fly Flags

National Pride: The most common flag flown in the U.S. is the Stars and Stripes. Many Americans display the national flag outside their homes, schools, or businesses as a sign of their patriotism. It’s a way to show love and respect for the country and to celebrate the freedoms it offers, including the freedom of speech.
Political Expression: People also fly flags to show support for political movements or figures they believe in. For instance, during election seasons, it’s common to see flags supporting various candidates or political parties. These flags help individuals voice their political preferences in a public yet non-confrontational way.
Honoring History and Culture: Many flags hold historical or cultural meanings. Flags like the Gadsden flag (“Don’t Tread on Me”) connect to America’s history of independence and resistance. Others, like the Betsy Ross flag or various military flags, honor the nation’s history and the sacrifices made by those who served. More info on: Revolutionary war flags with names
Advocacy Through Flags: Flags are often used to support various social causes. For example, rainbow flags are flown to show support for LGBTQ+ rights, and blue line flags are displayed to show solidarity with law enforcement. These flags allow individuals to promote social issues that are important to them.
personal Expression: Some people choose to fly flags that reflect their personal interests or humor. These might include sports team flags, flags with funny slogans, or even pirate flags, which can add a playful element to personal spaces like homes or boats.
Honoring Loved Ones: Flags are flown to remember and honor loved ones who have passed away, especially those who served in the military or as first responders. This act of flying a flag can be a personal tribute and a public expression of gratitude and remembrance.

Why It’s Important to Keep Flying Flags

Flying flags is a long-standing tradition in America that serves many purposes—from expressing political beliefs and personal values to showing support for various causes and groups. In times when freedom of speech is perceived to be under threat, these flags stand as a testament to the enduring American spirit of expression and liberty. revolutionary war flags and meanings

Moreover, flags foster a sense of community and shared Identity. They remind us of our collective history and the values we stand for. Whether it’s the national flag fluttering on Independence Day or a custom flag at a local parade, these symbols help unite people from diverse backgrounds around common ideals.

Flags are not just simple symbols; they are significant instruments of expression in a country where freedom of speech is a cherished right. They allow individuals to state their beliefs, support their causes, and show their pride in a way that words sometimes cannot. So, whether it’s the national flag or a flag supporting a personal cause, flying these banners is a vital part of American culture and a visible reminder of the freedoms that make the country unique.

Wireless Headset Vs A Cordless PhoneWireless Headset Vs A Cordless Phone

The technology and hardware we use to communicate with customers, clients, and fellow employees are an important element of a company, but choosing from the wide array of phones and headsets can be intimidating. We live in an era where a company can choose from dozens of types of communication hardware, including wireless headsets and cordless phones, but which is best for your business?

To better understand which communication hardware is the best fit for your company, we’ve assembled the pros and cons of both a cordless phone and wireless headsets. Read each section and discover which would work best for your business.

Pros and Cons of a Cordless Phone

To better understand if a cordless phone is the best option for your company, read the advantages and disadvantages of integrating them into your office below.

Pros of Cordless Phones

  • No Tether: a wired phone chains a person to their desk, often having to choose between putting someone on hold or doing something that would benefit the conversation or multitasking. Efficiency is paramount to productivity and in this day and age, having to do something away from where the phone is should have no bearing on continuing conversation.
  • Sound Quality: Some may wonder, why not just use a cell phone rather than a cordless one? The sound quality is much better. Keeping the sound quality of a conversation top-notch is important to not only communicate well but show professionalism to customers and clients.
  • Functionality: Cordless business phones have an impressive set of features, from phone-to-phone intercom to three-way conferencing, and caller ID. These features make much of the day-to-day easier for both employees and management.

Cons of Cordless Phones

  • More Expensive: hardware that has more technology tends to be more expensive and cordless business phones are no exception.
  • Reliability: many cordless business phones operate on the same frequency as things like baby monitors and car alarms, which can cause significant interference. This is not only unprofessional but can derail important phone calls.
  • Easier to Lose: for the number of times we’ve all misplaced our mobile phones, consider how that can harm daily work when the cordless phone goes missing or hasn’t been recharged. One more thing to keep track of isn’t always the best idea in the office.

Pros and Cons of Wireless Headsets

To better understand if wireless headsets are the best option for your company, read the advantages and disadvantages of integrating them into your office below.

  • Functionality: wireless headsets are a multipoint technology that has many features, such as connecting multiple headphones to one device simultaneously and easy integration between platforms, enabling you to switch between them much easier. Rather than only a communication device, a wireless headset enables greater communication by utilizing different devices and their features.
  • Convenience: like cordless business phones, a wireless headset enables people to move away from the desk, but also not have to worry about holding the phone. Both hands are at your disposal and can type, move things around, grab what you need, etc.
  • Range: A cordless business phone can certainly provide you with more space to roam, but not as much as a wireless headset. Your mobility is increased substantially without worry about the call dropping or interference from other devices.

Cons of Wireless Headsets

  • Battery Life: wireless headsets have batteries that can last for 40 hours straight, but they still require between 5 to 8 hours of charging. A missed charging can upset the workday a great deal if there aren’t enough spares to go around.
  • The Weight: while cordless business phones require you to hold them, they are much lighter than wearing a wireless headset throughout the workday. Due to their batteries, they are much heavier on the head and can quickly become uncomfortable.
  • Pairing: A Bluetooth device needs to pair and that can be a massive annoyance, not only does it disrupt the workday and wastes time but it can also drive someone to return to a wired headset or phone.

Move Ahead with Quality Phone Technology

The most important thing to remember when debating wireless headsets vs. cordless phones is which works best for your environment. For example, desk phones with a wireless headset that can answer and hang up calls remotely are more functional near the desk as they typically have a max Range of 350 ft (Bluetooth being less), whereas a cordless phone is limited by the wifi network.

So, what kind of connectivity do you need? If you stay closer to a desk but don’t want to be tethered to it via a wire then a wireless headset may be ideal. If, on the other hand, you’re frequently away from the desk but need to maintain a strong connection, a cordless phone would be a better solution. We encourage you to head over to HeadsetAdvisors.com and see which wireless headsets or cordless phones suit your company’s needs. Find the right solution for your people now that you know the advantages and disadvantages of each.

Expressing Freedom in America Through FlagsExpressing Freedom in America Through Flags

In the U.S., flags are more than just colorful pieces of fabric. They are strong symbols of liberty, pride, and historical significance. At a time when many feel that freedom of speech is under attack, flying a flag becomes a meaningful way to express oneself. This article discusses why flags hold such significance in America and why it’s essential to keep this tradition alive.

The Perceived Threat to Freedom of Speech

Freedom of speech is one of the core principles of American democracy, protected by the First Amendment in the U.S. Constitution. It allows people to express their opinions, beliefs, and thoughts without fear of government retaliation. However, many people feel that this freedom is being threatened today. Some believe that political correctness, social media censorship, and public shaming for expressing certain viewpoints threaten this fundamental right. In such a climate, expressing oneself through flags becomes a visible and impactful form of personal expression.

Expressing Yourself with a Flag

When words are limited or when someone wants to make a bold statement, flags serve as powerful tools for expression. Each flag tells a story or sends a message without saying a word. For example, flying the American flag can show love and pride for the country, while other flags might support specific causes or commemorate historical events. Key Reasons Americans Fly Flags

National Pride: The most common flag flown in the U.S. is the Stars and Stripes. Many Americans display the national flag outside their homes, schools, or businesses as a sign of their patriotism. It’s a way to show respect and love for the country and to celebrate the freedoms it offers, including the freedom of speech.
Expressing Political Beliefs: People also fly flags to show support for political movements or figures they believe in. For instance, during election seasons, it’s common to see flags supporting various candidates or political parties. These flags help individuals voice their political preferences in a public yet non-confrontational way.
Cultural and Historical Significance: Many flags hold historical or cultural meanings. Flags like the Gadsden flag (“Don’t Tread on Me”) connect to America’s history of independence and resistance. Others, like the Betsy Ross flag or various military flags, honor the nation’s history and the sacrifices made by those who served. More info on: Old Civil War flags
Support for Causes: Flags are often used to support various social causes.
Memorial and Remembrance: Flags are flown to remember and honor loved ones who have passed away, especially those who served in the military or as first responders. This act of flying a flag can be a personal tribute and a public expression of gratitude and remembrance.

The Importance of Continuing to Fly Flags

Flying flags is a deeply rooted tradition in America that serves many purposes—from expressing political beliefs and personal values to showing support for various causes and groups. In times when freedom of speech is perceived to be under threat, these flags stand as a testament to the enduring American spirit of expression and liberty. Revolutionary war flags with names

2024 IRMAA Brackets: Amounts and How2024 IRMAA Brackets: Amounts and How

How the IRMAA Brackets adjust:

When Congress created Medicare IRMAA back in 2003 through the passing of the Medicare Modernization Act, they ruled that the IRMAA Brackets would adjust by

“The percentage (if any) by which the average of the Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers (United States city average) for the 12-month period ending with August of the preceding calendar year exceeds such average for the 12-month period.”

So, if the CPI-U at the end of August of the current year is greater than the previous August then the IRMAA Brackets will increase. Note the inflation rate does not determine IRMAA costs.

By the way there is no language that would stop the IRMAA Brackets from going down if the CPI-U would actually deflate from year to year.

In terms of the all the Thresholds within the IRMAA Brackets, due to the passing of the Bi-Partisan Budget Act of 2018 the 5th Threshold in the IRMAA Brackets will not adjust for inflation until 2028.
